Lifestyle can be described in terms of choices we make that contribute to who we are. We all have our own lifestyles. We all like certain foods, drinks and activities. That's part of what it means to be human. A healthy lifestyle is one in which we make our wellbeing and the wellbeing of others a priority. If we make wellbeing a priority then all our choices stem from a place of wellbeing.
Wellbeing has four main areas:
- Physical: That includes our physical body and our physical environment (Tidiness, cleanliness and how we manage our personal space)
- Emotional: Has to do with our emotional life and how we respond to the emotions of others. This is often called Emotional Intelligence or EQ.
- Mental: Has to do with our coping strategies for dealing with stress and anxiety when they arise.
- Spiritual: How we feel connected to a bigger picture beyond ourselves as well as our belief and faith systems.
Our lifestyle is not just about us but also includes everyone we interact with. Today our digital lifestyle is becoming as important as eating well, exercise and forming relationships.
